If your Joy For All companion (cat or dog) no longer makes sounds — such as meowing, barking, or purring — here are a few simple steps to try to resolve the issue.

Step-by-step checklist:

Change to new batteries:

  • Make sure the batteries are properly installed and correctly positioned.

  • Use 4 alkaline C-type batteries (1.5V) (recommended brands: Duracell or Energizer).

  • Never mix new and used batteries.

  • Check that the batteries are properly installed (for example, the positive pole (+) is the small rounded button of the battery, and it must correspond to the + symbol indicated in the compartment)

Try turning the animal off and on again:

  • The button is located under the belly or near the tail.

  • Set the switch to OFF, wait 10 seconds, then set it back to ON.

Gently stimulate the animal:

  • Gently pet the animal’s head or back.

  • These gestures usually activate the sound or motion sensors.

Listen carefully:

  • Some mechanical noises are normal (Although they may seem a bit loud at first, they are normal. The sound is often louder when the cat/puppy is new, but tends to soften with use.)

  • If you hear the motor but no sound (such as a meow or a bark), the speaker may have a problem.

Clarify the issue:

  • Is only one part not moving (e.g.: one paw)?

  • Does the animal still make noises or blink?

Still no sound?

  • Ask yourself the following questions:

    • Did the toy fall or get wet?

    • Have the batteries been changed recently?

  • If the animal still does not make any sound after all these steps, it may be defective.
